Ever feel like your eyes are burning, gritty, or constantly tired—especially after a long day indoors or in front of a screen? You're not alone. Dry eye syndrome is one of the most common complaints I hear at the clinic, and it’s on the rise—especially here in tech-heavy Bellevue.

Why Are Dry Eyes So Common?

Dry eyes happen when your tears aren’t doing their job. Either you’re not making enough of them, or the ones you do have evaporate too quickly. The result? Irritated, red, or even watery eyes (yes, watery eyes can actually be a sign of dryness!).

In Bellevue, we see certain environmental and lifestyle factors that make things worse:

  • Heavy screen time (fewer blinks = more evaporation)
  • Indoor heating or A/C
  • Allergens and pollutants
  • Contact lens wear (Especially in non-daily lenses)
  • Aging and hormonal changes (especially for women)

What Are the Symptoms?

If you have any of these, you might be dealing with dry eye disease:

  • Gritty or sandy sensation
  • Redness or burning
  • Blurry vision that improves with blinking
  • Eye fatigue or soreness
  • Excessive tearing (yes—ironically)

What Can You Do About It?

At Vision Care Center, we take dry eyes seriously and tailor solutions based on what’s actually causing the issue. Some common treatments include:

  • Preservative free artificial tears (We recommend Optase)
  • Hot compresses
  • Prescription drops like Xiidra or Restasis
  • Lid hygiene routines
  • Omega-3 supplementation
  • Meibomian gland therapy (if needed)

And yes, we carry these in-office if you don’t want to go hunting for them at the pharmacy. Everyone’s dry eye is a little bit different, and I cater all treatment plans for each unique patient and their specific needs and complaints. We can even try some of the treatments in the office!

Bottom Line

Dry eyes are more than just an inconvenience—it affects your quality of life. If you’re constantly reaching for drops or your eyes never feel “normal,” let’s figure out what’s going on.
