One Year of Clear Vision: What I’ve Learned Owning an Optometry Practice in Bellevue
Dr. Jin shares what he’s learned in his first year as an optometry clinic owner in Bellevue and his vision for the future of care.
One year ago, I made the biggest leap of my career. After working in a variety of clinics, hospitals, and retail optometry settings, I came to a realization: the only way to get true fulfillment out of this profession was to practice on my own terms. Through a stroke of luck, I found a small private optometry office in the heart of Bellevue—and I knew immediately that it was the perfect space to bring my vision to life.
Now, as the owner of my own clinic, I’ve discovered a deeper purpose in providing eye care. My mission from day one has been simple: to deliver cutting-edge, compassionate, and comprehensive eye care while building real relationships with the Bellevue community. I didn’t want to be just another eye clinic—I wanted to become your trusted Bellevue eye doctor. The one you could count on for not just prescriptions, but honest conversations, consistent care, and a personalized experience every time.
Owning my practice has allowed me to create an environment that works—not just for me and my team, but more importantly, for my patients. From the moment you walk into Vision Care Center, you’ll notice the difference. We use advanced diagnostic technology, offer longer exam times, and emphasize patient-centered care. Every comprehensive eye exam is 45 minutes long, giving us time to answer questions, explain results, and truly tailor your vision care plan.
Compare that to the 10-minute exam you might get at a chain like LensCrafters or Costco—or even some private offices. In my opinion, high-quality care just can’t be rushed.
It hasn’t been easy—but it’s been worth every second. From the late nights crunching numbers to the early mornings opening the doors, this first year of ownership has been the most challenging—and most rewarding—chapter of my life. I’ve grown not just as a doctor, but as a business owner, a leader, and a member of this community. And through it all, I’ve learned some powerful lessons—about patient care, about running a practice, and about myself.
Let me share what the first 365 days have taught me.
What I’ve Learned in One Year
- Every patient matters. Whether it’s a quick glasses check or a complex medical diagnosis, each interaction is a chance to make someone’s life a little clearer—literally and figuratively.
- Technology is a game changer. Upgrading to retinal imaging like Optos has helped us catch early signs of eye disease without dilation, and our new Ray-Ban frame line? Let's just say it's been turning heads.
- The right team is everything. I couldn’t do this without Jas, Jackie, and the people behind the scenes. Whether it’s handling a full schedule or making our patients feel at ease, they are the backbone of this clinic.
- Being a business owner means learning every day. From insurance billing to marketing to choosing the right frame inventory, the hat rack in my office is very full. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You, the Patient, Are the Reason
What’s been most rewarding is seeing familiar faces return, bring in their family members, or leave a kind review. Every time you choose to book your exam, get your glasses here, or refer a friend, you help keep our doors open and our mission alive. I’m beyond grateful.
Looking Ahead
The first year was just the beginning. In year two, we’re planning more upgrades, expanded services, and community involvement. Whether it’s specialty contact lenses, dry eye management, or just helping you find the perfect pair of glasses or contact lenses, we’re in it for the long haul.
Thank you for trusting us with your vision. Here's to another year of clarity, growth, and community.
